Combining the company ’ s commitment to protecting the planet and advancing STEAM education , Cox Communications celebrated National Recycling Month as a proud sponsor of the Ogden Museum of Southern Art ’ s Second Time , Second Line Recycling Project in New Orleans . About 200 Young Audience Charter School students , grades two through five , created works of art from refuse . Guided by a mixed-media specialist , the students learned new art techniques , explored the culture of the American South and learned the importance of recycling to the environment . Their work was on display at the museum from Feb . 19 through April 10 .
Team Cox helped students learn personal finance management skills .
Thanks to Team Cox volunteers , seventh graders from Camp Creek Middle School in south Atlanta gained a wealth of financial knowledge that will benefit them now and in years to come . Cox Enterprises ’ finance and audit team and Cox Automotive HR team members coached students through a “ Finance Park ” experiential learning activity at Junior Achievement of Georgia ’ s Atlanta Discovery Center . Each student received a unique career , income , education and family scenario and was given help navigating through an exercise to balance a budget and learn vital personal finance management skills .

Nearly 200 Cox team members helped advance the education of hundreds of students and increase awareness of the importance of STEAM . In addition to building 60 robots for Girls Inc . to enhance its members ’ coding and cybersecurity skills and providing virtual career advice to students with CareerVillage , volunteers assembled 700 STEAM kits with Hands On Atlanta to provide firsthand engagement for students and spark learning . Volunteers also worked with Learning in Color to help create a STEAM-themed mural for Centennial Academy in Atlanta , making it a more inviting and inspiring place to learn .

The Southwest Wildlife Conservation Center received $ 60,000 to further its efforts to rescue , rehabilitate and release animals in the Southwest and offer sanctuary to those that cannot be re-released into the wild . The funds came from Cox Enterprises and The Trust for Public Land in honor of their top Cox Conserves Hero , Diane Vaszily of Scottsdale , Ariz . Diane , nominated by Cox Communications Southwest , has volunteered with the organization for years : as a docent , education curriculum writer and mentor for new volunteers ; creating a field program at the local park ; and forming a team to author a children ’ s book about desert animals . She noted , “ If the next generation has firsthand contact with the environment and wildlife in a meaningful and positive way , those experiences will help them become better stewards of those lands and animals in the future .”
