OUR IMPACT GOALS
Caring for People Ensure our employees and communities thrive
Talent retention and acquisition have never been more important , especially as the job market remains in flux in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic . Employees want to trust their employer and they expect their employer to give back to its communities . ( In a recent Porter Novelli survey , 83 % of Gen Z respondents said they consider a company ’ s purpose when deciding where to work .)
“ Our CSR work is one of the top reasons our employees cite for feeling connected to Cox ,” said Maury Wolfe , vice president , corporate responsibility and social impact , Cox Enterprises . “ They want to know how we ’ re moving the needle of change , and we can ’ t do that unless we have data .”
Plus , ESG data can provide proof points behind Cox ’ s Purpose to make the world a better place , which can help the company stand out as a compelling partner for mission-driven businesses like BrightFarms .

Where Is Cox on ESG ?
Cox ’ s ESG journey began when leaders from across the company came together in 2019 to develop an overall strategy . Forming a board committee focused on ESG demonstrated how much they valued its inclusion . From there , the company worked with accounting and consulting firm EY to conduct a “ materiality assessment ” to learn more about what kind of data it should track . Cox invested in cutting-edge software and a data management solution that pulls in data from across the enterprise and streamlines it , creating a more comprehensive overview .
The company will use the platform to set a baseline and track progress on meeting Cox ’ s ambitious 34 by 34 social impact goal to empower 34 million people by 2034 . Few companies are tracking social impact in this way , but Cox wanted to set an example .
“ We want to be a thought leader ,” said Maury . “ Because we are a Purpose-driven company , this type of reporting is crucial to not only the story we tell , but also to how we successfully and sustainably operate our businesses .”
