Happy endings:
McKenzie
McKenzie the English Bull Terrier cross
was really struggling to cope with being
in kennels and despite our best efforts to
get her helping out in the office it soon
became apparent that office work wasn’t
her thing and what she really needed was
time away from the stress of the Centre.
Up stepped Phil, one of our volunteers
who recently retired after 31 years in HM
Forces. He seemed the ideal person to
take McKenzie for some long walks and
the occasional five mile run to burn off
some energy.
Whereas in kennels McKenzie was rather
vocal and reacted to the slightest noise,
away from the Centre she was a more
relaxed dog who loved meeting other dogs
and especially their owners. From October,
McKenzie started going out with Phil for
daily five mile walks and even enjoyed
several day trips to local beaches at Brean
Down, Ilfracombe and Minehead. She also
visited Wells Cathedral and Glastonbury!
McKenzie liked nothing better than to
snuggle up to someone on the sofa during
the day and during several ‘sleepovers’
with Phil, she showed that she loved
sleeping at the foot of the bed (and
preferably underneath the covers where
she made an excellent foot warmer!).
Almost inevitably, Phil and his wife fell in
love with this special girl and eventually
decided to adopt her. So McKenzie, after
so many months in kennels, finally went
to her forever home!
