Isabela Impresses Young Journalist Judges
Back in December, the English Department
began preparing students for the Humanitarian
Journalism Competition
run
by Amnesty
International. We chose the best articles written
by Key Stage 3 and Key stage 4 students and
submitted them - and all 4 students (Jade Y8,
Kamola Y9, Connor & Isabela Y10) were chosen
as finalists! They were invited to a prestigious
finalists'
day,
celebrating
Humanitarian
Journalism, and here, Isabela was chosen to
receive an additional award of Excellence!
Congratulations to all four finalists.
Mood Board Presentations
In the lead up to last week's Book Week, all of our
Key Stage 3 students, and some of our Key stage 4
students had been working hard on creating
mood boards. They read their own choice of novel
independently
and then
made
a board to interpret and symbolize the key plots,
characters, themes and settings in the novel. They
presented their mood boards to the rest of their
classes and explained their ideas. The subtitle to
Book Week this year was "The Art of Reading" and
the boards really reflected this - they are very
aesthetically pleasing and have made the
classrooms look great.
Songkran Celebration &
End of Term 2
We are now approaching the end of term 2 and that
means that it’s almost time to celebrate Songkran. At St
Andrews we will be celebrating Songkran on Friday April 4.
Students will study periods 1 – 5 as normal then at 1pm we
will have a traditional Songkran celebration followed by
water play. After the holiday, school will start again on
Monday April 21.
