Spotlight Magazine Would you like to help international students and their families feel at home in Nottingham? Getting to know local people helps international students experience British life and culture, meet new people and really feel at home in their new community. International Family Link is an established scheme run by The University of Nottingham which invites local people to spend time with international students, visitors and their families, offering warm hospitality in their own homes. Anyone can volunteer to be a host. Visits usually last 2-3 hours and can take place once a term or more frequently. Previous hosts have told us that they found the visits just as beneficial as the students did, as they are a great way to find out more about other cultures. Here are just a few ideas for activities that you and your visitors could take part in together: • • • • a walk in the local area followed by tea and biscuits a trip out to a museum or art gallery a Sunday lunch or perhaps a dinner invitation one evening The deadline to volunteer as a host and to submit an application for this term is Saturday 31 October 2015. We would be happy to hear from prospective hosts throughout the year following this initial deadline. t: 0115 951 5681 e: [email protected] w: www.nottingham.ac.uk/go/familylink www.spotlightlocal.co.uk • 0115 822 4995 • [email protected] 17
