Marathon is about
a lot more than
winning

First, Manitoba Marathon organizers decided to run the
annual 26.2 mile race backwards. Then they watched as a
woman challenged a man for the victory. Bradley Keefe, a
former runner-up in the marathon, won this year’s event in
a time of two hours, 43 minutes and 31 seconds. Meanwhile,
Heather Magill of East Grand Forks, Minn., won her
second straight women’s marathon in a time of two hours,
55 minutes and 54 seconds. It’s as close as the men’s and
women’s finishers have ever been. Of course, to be fair, the
Manitoba Marathon is about a lot more than winning the big
race. As our photographer, James Carey Lauder found out,
the Marathon is just fun for everybody. l
