Blue Bombers and became an 11-year fixture with the club as
a fullback and special teams demon. He was a two-time
Eastern Division All-Star and is still the CFL’s leading special
teams tackler (184).
Wade and Gil were selected as this year’s honorees because
the WHSFL Senior Bowl format is designed to honor the
schools and a player from one of those schools who is in the
WHSFL Hall Of Fame.
This is the sixth year under this format and the WHSFL
Senior Bowl previously we have honoored legendary coaches
Frank Bryan (Sisler), Graham Kinley (St. John’s), Bob Wilkes
(Gordon Bell), John Potter (Daniel Mac), Ron Gustafson
(Grant Park), Nick Laping (St Paul’s), Doug and Walter
Krochak (River East and Maples) and former players Bill Petrie
(Elmwood) and Bernie Novak (Tec Voc).
“We will also be honoring Kevin Boyd from Crocus Plains
before the game this year,” Henkewich said. “Kevin passed
away earlier this year and his eldest son, Logan, will be
playing in the game. Kevin was a long-time Crocus Plains
player and coach who touched many lives in his time. He
was also the founder of the Plainsmen For Life program
in Brandon.”
The big game will be held on Saturday the 28th at 1 p.m.
Tickets are $5 and can be bought from schools or at the gate.
