Plymouth State Basketball

By Cam Schulte

Six Games into the season things look as they could go either way for PSU’s basketball program. Lead by sophomore Jaylen Leroy who has averaged 22.7 points per game for Plymouth’s three wins and three losses things look bright for the future of this team. Mike Osgood, a junior, has also been a prominent factor in the teams success as third-year forward. Coming off a hot year last year, it seems that it will be another good one for Mike who has averaged 19.3 points per game for the first six games of this season. He also has averaged 7.8 rebounds per game, important for any team that wants to make a good run in the playoffs. Breaking a three game losing streak on December 5th against Framingham State the team hopes to start a run. The beginning of the season is important to cement team chemistry and work out any kinks regarding the starting lineup and the way the team plays in general. Hopes are high for this team who travel to Elms college looking to extend the winning streak to two games.

Plymouth, who went 12-13 last year, were only picked 6th in the pre-season coaches poll. But with a young team in which most key players played their first-year last year it seems they may be underrated. Head coach Andrew Novice would agree who commented on the new season saying "Having a bunch of young players has been great, it has helped us build our identity and bring us closer together. With only two seniors our focus has been less about whether you are a new or returning player and more about just being a team.”. Its apparent that this young team is ready to breakout, look for these players to surprise the whole league this year.
