GOOD FITS?
By: Ryan Welte
Rob Chudzinski: Head Coach, Cleveland Browns
Chip Kelly: Head Coach, Philadelphia Eagles
Marc Trestman: Head Coach, Chicago Bears
Former Oregon Ducks Head Coach Brian Kelly will be the next Coach of the Eagles. I think this is a pretty good fit. Kelly led a high powered offense in Oregon; one who snapped the ball every 20.9 seconds. That takes two things: speed and practice. The Eagles have speed in Vick, McCoy, Jackson, and Maclin. But, under the new CBA, NFL teams cannot practice as much as Kelly did in Oregon as snaps are limited. I still think that Kelly will adapt to that and still have success with his Eagles in the NFL.
Now former CFL Coach of the Montreal Alouettes will take over as Head Coach of the Chicago Bears. He has led his team to 2 Grey Cups in his five years with them , the equivalent to a Super Bowl in the NFL. Trestman isn't short on NFL experience either, being an assistant coach on eight different franchises over a 19 year span. Trestman also has spent time previously with Jay Cutler, who will be his starting QB in Chicago. I like the fit a lot. Winning is winning, whether it is the CFL or the NFL and he has shown he can do that. Hopefully he can mentor Cutler to bring his full potential out.
Chudzinski was the OC in Carolina until he was offered this job in Cleveland. It won't last long. This is a bad fit. I watch every snap of the Carolina Panthers and Chudzinski is a horrible play caller. He is lucky to get out of Carolina before Newton tears it down, but Browns fans shouldn't expect much change in the win column. Fantasy owners should look out for Trent Richardson though. It seems that all that Chudzinski cares about is statistics as every time the Panthers were near the endzone, they did QB runs with Newton. My point is, he is far too predictable.
