Glasgow Gaels
Gaelic Club
Glasgow Gaels is a fantastic example of the important role that a club
can play in their local community. Sport in Profile Magazine recently
caught up with club representative Jennifer Salfen to find out more
about how they have been getting along lately.

“Last year the Ladies
built on a stellar year in 2015,
winning the Scottish Junior
Championship for the first time
and reaching the All-Britain final,
unfortunately losing out to Oisin
CLG of Manchester by just 4 points. The
ladies came back stronger than ever in
2016
2016 to retain their Scottish title and
reach the All-Britain final again, this
time beating out a very strong team in
John Mitchels of Birmingham.
The ladies then took on the
European GAA champions,
Belgium and put in another
good
performance
to
reach
the
Quarter-Final
of the All-Ireland Junior
Championship versus St.
Maurs GAA of Dublin. It
was the first time that any
Gaels side has not only won
both the British Final and the
European, but also the first
time a Glasgow side has faced
an Irish opponent. The ladies
lost out on the day to eventual
All-Ireland champions St. Maurs,
but it was a fantastic experience
and we are all very grateful to have
been a part of it!”

She told us, “The mood is really
fantastic at the moment. Our club
has grown exponentially over the
last three years and things just
keep going from strength to
strength. There are challenges
being a GAA club abroad
such as player turnover,
securing sponsorship, etc...
but we’re pretty optimistic
at how things are going.”
