Belle Vue Aces
there’s no way we could run without
their help.”
Perhaps the most crucial target for
this new regime is concerning speedway
audiences, and while Belle Vue averages
more than your regular speedway club
there is still plenty of scope to improve.
With such a dedicated following
from the sport’s “golden era”, their
emphasis rests on the need to attract
newer, younger blood through the
turnstiles while retaining their most
loyal followers.
It is not an endeavour that will
happen overnight but already steps
have been taken to increase the club’s
visibility in the north by means of
commercial advertising through local
radio and newspaper.
But though speedway will forever
reside at the heart of the National
Speedway Stadium, there is much still to
come from the venue with the ultimate
goal to develop for it a rich portfolio of
uses.
“This stadium has huge potential and
not just where speedway is concerned,”
says Smith. “This is a new facility with
lots to offer and which can cater for a
wide spectrum of events all year round.
“We’ve got a superb function room
that can hold at least 350 people. There’s
limitless opportunities to utilise the 3G
pitch in the centre of the track and even
the circuit itself is flexible in its uses.
“The recent transition period meant
it hasn’t been used as much as it could’ve
been in the last few months but even
now we are continuing to work closely
with Eastland’s Trust to rectify that.
“In the short term it’s about
promotion and advertising, and getting
the message out there that we’re here
while in the longer term we want to
ensure this stadium is working all year
round.
“We’re dedicated to the development
of both the speedway and the stadium.
It’s a fabulous venue with everything
going for it. We’ve got a long road
ahead but we’re definitely up for the
challenge.”

A lot has happened in the two years since Belle Vue Aces
speedway last appeared in Sport in Profile Magazine,
both for The Aces and their main sponsor Rentruck of
Rochdale.
Rentruck’s Managing Director Richard Cotton had this to
say, “We were very saddened by the events of 2016 at the
NSS, as over the years we have formed a strong business
and personal relationship with the previous promotion.”
“The future of our great club became uncertain, but
thankfully the new promotion with Tony, Robin and
Adrian along with the invaluable input from Mark Lemon,
appear to have saved the club in the short term, and have
exciting plans for the future, both on and off the track.
“As far as our involvement is concerned, we were happy
to strike an agreement with the promotion, to continue
Rentruck’s proud sponsorship of The Aces fo r a fifth year,
along with a second year’s sponsorship of the Colts by
our sister company, Cool Running Rental, specialists in
temperature-controlled vehicle rental.”
Rentruck now have a fleet approaching 300 vehicles, and
supply the speedway industry with in excess of 50 vehicles
during the speedway season.
