urnley Bobcats are a performance swim squad that works hard with local clubs to identify talented swimmers and
to develop our own swimmers to achieve their potential through structured coaching in a competitive yet friendly
environment. Their Chairman, Tommy Fenton, took the time to tell us more about the superb set up that they currently
have in place.
He told us, “I started in June/July of last year and
within a month the Head Coach resigned. I was
expecting a little bit of a settling in period but that
didn’t happen as we had to go out and get a new
Head Coach. We’re happy with what we’ve got now
with Noel Horton who is doing a fantastic job and
have progressed well over the last year.
“The mood is pretty good here at the moment. Last
year we had three national swimmers and this year
we’ve got eighteen. There’s a lot of local clubs that
are feeding into us now and we’ve been able to build
some strong relationships in that regard.
“At our level the next step is to go into the GB squad
and we’re always looking to help people to reach
their full potential. The training is very demanding
and requires a lot of commitment so it is not for
everybody but if swimmers are prepared to put the
