DURHAM DRAGONS DURHAM DRAGONS First established in 1983, The Durham Dragons Ice Hockey Team is a primarily self-funded sports club playing at a recreational level. Many of their games are challenge or friendly matches but they are a competitive unit that always plays to win. They do also compete in regional and national tournaments whenever they get the chance and this provides them with the opportunity to play against different opposition. Following on from the closure of the Riverside Rink in 1996 it has been difficult for the club to continue but they continue to compete thanks to the hard work that has been put in by their Committee. The Dragons follow on from the Durham Wasps who at their peak were the most successful UK team. They themselves built a superb reputation for being successful, winning a number of tournaments across the country and teams knew that they would be in for a tough encounter whenever they played them. “ Teams knew that they would be in for a tough encounter whenever they played them. “ The club aims to help players develop their skills and reach their full potential within the game and welcomes anyone with an interest in the game. At present all of their players are over 18 years of age although they can accommodate members so long as they are over the age of 16.
