DURHAM DRAGONS
DURHAM DRAGONS
First established in 1983, The Durham Dragons Ice Hockey Team is a primarily self-funded
sports club playing at a recreational level. Many of their games are challenge or friendly
matches but they are a competitive unit that always plays to win. They do also compete in
regional and national tournaments whenever they get the chance and this provides them with
the opportunity to play against different opposition.
Following on from the closure
of the Riverside Rink in 1996
it has been difficult for the club
to continue but they continue
to compete thanks to the hard
work that has been put in by their
Committee. The Dragons follow
on from the Durham Wasps
who at their peak were the most
successful UK team.
They themselves built a superb
reputation for being successful,
winning a number of tournaments
across the country and teams
knew that they would be in for a
tough encounter whenever they
played them.

their full potential within the game
and welcomes anyone with an
interest in the game. At present
all of their players are over 18
years of age although they can
accommodate members so long
as they are over the age of 16.
They are also able to offer training
for players with impaired hearing
as they have ‘signing’ members.
