From helping shape our city’ s future on the Planning Commission to serving on the City Council since 2004, Philip Harris has always put Gulf Shores first. Now, as Mayor Pro Tempore of the Council, Philip is ready to continue working for you— protecting our“ Small Town, Big Beach” way of life while planning for an even brighter future.
Proven Experience and Leadership Philip Harris began his public service journey when appointed to the Gulf Shores Planning Commission in 2001. In 2004, the community’ s trust in his leadership led to his first election to the City Council. Over two decades of service later, Philip’ s career in local government has been both challenging and rewarding. He approaches each decision with integrity and considers the good of all Gulf Shores residents.
Deep Community Roots Philip’ s commitment to Gulf Shores runs deep. His inspiration comes from his late father, George Harris Sr., a long-time council member known for standing up for principles and improving our community. Philip continues to honor that legacy through his leadership.
Local Business Owner and Family Man Philip and his wife, Jill, moved to Gulf Shores in 1986 to open the family’ s restaurant, Nolan’ s. In 1995, Philip founded Philip Harris Construction, a business he still owns and operates today. As a small business owner, he understands the needs of local businesses and works to promote sustainable growth.
Protecting Our Quality of Life Managing growth is one of Gulf Shores’ biggest challenges. Philip believes we can maintain the charm of our“ Small Town, Big Beach” lifestyle while growing our city responsibly. He’ s committed to ensuring that growth benefits the community and enhances residents ' lives.
Investing in Education Philip is especially proud of helping Gulf Shores create its own city school system in 2017. The investment in local education has already paid off, providing our children with the tools to succeed at the highest level.
