The excitement that comes with
school’s start each fall will have an
extra component at Ursuline
Preschool and Kindergarten this
September, when new leadership
steps in to guide our school.
Mary Ann Critell, who’s been
with UPSK 18 years, most recently
as a Kindergarten Teacher and
Assistant Principal, will now serve
as Principal and Director. She’s also an Ursuline Associate.
“The children energize me!” Mary Ann says. “My passion is teaching
at all levels. I look forward to teaching special religion lessons, telling
stories and assisting with music for various programs.”
Sister Mary Alyce Koval, Site Director for Beatitude House’s A House
of Blessing Youngstown, will be Minister of Ursuline Mission for UPSK.
“My education experience has come full circle,” Sister Mary Alyce
says. “In my life as an Ursuline Sister of Youngstown, I spent 42 years
in elementary school teaching and administration. The last five years
have been helping women at Beatitude House pursue post-secondary
education. Now I’m going back to where it all starts — preschool.”
Our school will continue its connection to the Ursuline Sisters’
mission and still feature a religious dimension with instruction.
Sister Mary McCormick, General Superior, adds that the Ursuline
Sisters greatly appreciate Sister Charlotte Italiano’s years of devotion
and leadership as Principal and Director of UPSK. Sister Charlotte
mentored Mary Ann and worked to make the transition smooth.
UPSK begins its 51st year of education and ministry this fall. A new
program will be Time for Two for two year olds, Mary Ann notes.

Healing Waters
Our pool renovation (we
needed a new roof, skylights,
HVAC, electrical and paint) is
complete. At $200,000+, it
was quite an undertaking.
Thank you for your donations and grants
toward the project. Some 800 people use our
pool weekly for health and safety programs.
You can still donate, either by the enclosed
envelope, or safely at theursulines.org.
