I am old enough to remember the prophetic fearmongering of David Wilkerson calling rock and roll music satanic. It did not matter to him whether or not it had Christian lyrics or not. Since the syncopated beat originated in the jungles of Africa, it was spawned by the devil. I am also old enough to remember Hal Lindsey’s book called the late great planet earth. In that book he riled up all red blooded American Christians to hate the Soviet Union since they were the satanic force that would come from the north to battle Jesus on the day of Armageddon.
There is a problem in the church concerning rebellion, manipulation, and sexual promiscuity. However to use the teaching of a “Jezebel spirit” to create alarm is wrong. Bad teaching does not produce good results. Using fear to motivate a person to godliness is counterproductive. God has not given us a Spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind. (2 Timothy 1:7)
Not only does fearmongering motivate people with fear, but it also plays into their superstitions. It is easier for people to believe in superstitious “spirits” rather than believe that they are responsible for their own actions. That does not mean that there are not demonic forces at work in the world today. That does not mean that there are not people who are demonically influenced or possessed. Those things are real. What is not real is that there is this demon or hordes of demons that have certain attributes that are the same as the works of the flesh. They may tempt you to act out the works of the flesh. They may cloud your thinking that a work of the flesh will be good for you or others, but they are the tempters, not the source.
The Sad Reality Of Those That Teach About The Spirit Of Jezebel
I find that there is one sad reality concerning the prophetic fearmongering of the spirit of Jezebel. It violates the intent of God’s desire concerning this evil queen of Israel.
2 Kings 9:36-37
36 Therefore they came back and told him. And he said, “This is the word of the Lord, which He spoke by His servant Elijah the Tishbite, saying, ‘On the plot of ground at Jezreel dogs shall eat the flesh of Jezebel; 37 and the corpse of Jezebel shall be as refuse on the surface of the field, in the plot at Jezreel, so that they shall not say, “Here lies Jezebel.”’”
It was God’s desire that Jezebel not be buried but instead have her corpse eaten by dogs. Now that may sound gruesome, but there is a reason why. He did not want people to commemorate this evil queen and to remember her.
I find it sad, that those that believe they walk in a prophetic anointing cannot hear the voice of the Lord today concerning this woman Jezebel. She is not to be commemorated, either for good or for bad. God desired she be remembered no more.
I think it is time we stop speaking beyond what the scriptures speak. I think it is time to put an end to motivating people by fear. I think it is time to stop extrapolating things in the name of new teachings and prophetic ministry. It is time to once again know nothing except Christ and Him crucified. (1 Cor. 2:2)
