Prophetic Fearmongering
Of The Jezebel Spirit
One of the things that happens when you have been a believer for as long as I have been is that you learn the difference between what the Bible says, what people say the Bible says, and when people are using the Bible to teach beliefs that are based on extrapolation and superstition.
I remember when I was first a believer, that when people used the term Jezebel, they were talking about a woman who wore make up and dressed inappropriately. They got that reference from the wife of King Ahab who was an evil king and married an evil woman. Ahab and Jezebel plotted together to eliminate the influence of the prophets of their day. This was because they were power hungry. This is not unlike the political leaders of today.
Is There A Spirit Of Jezebel In The Bible?
This is where you start to learn to know what the Bible says vs. what other people say the Bible says. Nowhere in the Bible does it talk about a “spirit” of Jezebel.
There are people who show the same character qualities as Jezebel. Political maneuvering is nothing new in the scriptures. There are also people who try to manipulate other people. Manipulation is nothing new. There are also people who try to usurp authority. Again this is not new. It is not called a “spirit”. It is called the flesh.
There are also people who committed idolatries and witchcraft and sorceries. Guess what! None of these are called “spirits”. They are called works of the flesh!
Galatians 5:19-21
19 Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, 21 envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
As you can see, the Bible is plain about the source of these things. The Jezebel in the Old Testament and the Jezebel of the New Testament both operated in these things not because they had a spirit but because they followed the lusts of their flesh.
Prophetic Fearmongering
The definition of a fearmonger is a person who creates or spreads alarming news. The intention is to instill fear into others in order to create action. Prophetic fearmongering is the use of fear in the name of their prophetic gift in order to get people to respond to whatever it is they are creating alarm about.
