Message from the Honorary Consul for Grenada in Quebec

The patriotism and contributions of Grenadians in the Diaspora to the homeland of Grenada , Carriacou and Petite Martinique continues unabated , and the time away from home only add to the urges of return . The Spice Island Cultural Day Association of Quebec ( SICDAQ ) was incorporated in the Province of Quebec in 2017 with the sole purpose of establishing a vehicle to present and promote everything Grenada to Canada and the World . It was an honour to be elected as the first President of SICDAQ and served in that capacity for three years from 2017 to 2019 .
The first festival day was held in 2018 with the support of the Government of Grenada , the Grenada Tourism Authority , the City of Montreal , and other statutory bodies . Montreal and the World was treated to a new Caribbean styled festival of colour , pageantry , live performances of singers and musicians from Grenada , Toronto and Montreal and represented by the Government of Grenada ’ s Minister for Culture , the Honourable Senator Norland Cox .
With over 3,000 persons in attendance in the park , 2018 , 2019 was expected to be huge . Over 5,000 persons attended the live performances in 2019 which was anchored by the attendance of the Prime Minister of Grenada , the Rt . Hon . Dr . Keith Mitchell .
Sadly , the year 2020 had to be done virtual due to the pandemic and 2021 will also be held virtually but we are not daunted , as over 80,000 persons watched the several hours on
FaceBook and
YouTube .
The members of SICDAQ love a party , but when COVID-19 hit Grenada , they sourced and donated over 10,000 PPE ’ s , funds and other articles to help the Ministry of Health combat the pandemic . The recent volcanic eruption disaster in St . Vincent and the Grenadines saw SICDAQ reach out once again with a myriad of articles to aid the people in their time of need .
I am proud to be associated with SICDAQ and heartily endorse all their efforts to aid , promote and assist not only Grenada , but also to reach out to our fellow nationals here in Montreal and beyond .
