Jenny A . Gumbs
A former Consul General , Ms . Gumbs proudly and passionately served her community while fulfilling a varied and challenging mandate . She is a certified adjudicator who served on The Justices of the Peace Review Council and currently with the City of Toronto . She ’ s also a Senior Consultant to the Caribbean for a Canadian College and Universityforging educational partnerships with governments and post secondary institutions in the Caribbean .
She has a keen commitment to volunteerism : Honorary Co-Chair of the University of the West Indies Toronto Benefit Awards , President - Tropicana Community Services ( currently a member of the Governance Committee ) and she is an avid supporter of the Sickle Cell Community — initially through her involvement with the Sickle Cell Association of Grenada , the Sickle Cell Awareness Group of Ontario and as former Chair of the Sickle Cell Disease Association of Canada . She is a Trustee of the National Scholarship Fund of the Black Business and Professional Association ( BBPA ) and a Director on the board of After Breast Cancer and Tarragon Theatre . She ’ s a committee member of the SeroMARK Immunity Project , a research study that uses seroprevalence to understand the extent to which the Black community is impacted by COVID-19 , and served as a community member on the Vaccine Confidence Advisory Network / Vaccine Confidence Task Group of the Public Health Agency of Canada .
Jenny is the recipient of many community recognition awards including from Grenada organizations such as Grenada Day Cultural Association , GBSS Association - Toronto , Grenada Association and the Consul Independence Award . She ’ s also the recipient of BBPA Harry Jerome Award for Advocacy , Sickle Cell Awareness Group of Ontario Award of Excellence and was recognized as one of the 100 Accomplished Black Canadian Women at their inaugural event in 2016 .
A graduate of Ryerson University , now Toronto Metropolitan University ( TMU ), Jenny is the recipient of an Alumni Award of Distinction and serves on the Advisory Council for the Department of Public Administration and Governance .
