Anne Janice Farray

Anne “ Janice ” Farray is from one of Grenada ’ s most culturally-vibrant and rich green valley of Birch Grove , St . Andrew ’ s . Her childhood years were fundamental to who she is today as they provided the foundation on which she built her adult years . She possesses a solid base of principles and values , love for education , family and homeland . These were instilled in her because of the nurturing received from family and villagers , including her grand-uncle Francis and spouse Christabelle Humphrey . She attended Birch Grove Catholic Elementary School and St . Joseph ’ s Convent ( Grenville ).
Anne migrated to Canada in 1974 where she joined her hard-working and loving mother Margaret Farray- James and family . She completed her junior education at Marymount High School and Vanier College . In the 1980 ’ s , she attended the Black Writers of Canada Association Conference in Orillia , Ontario , because of her interest in writing . She pursued additional growth and development by undertaking undergraduate at night and attending numerous speakers ’ events . She holds a BA ( HR Management ) degree from Concordia University .
Anne has been active in communitybuilding for over 45 years . She has been involved in several organizations : Grenada Nationals Association of Montreal , Inc . ( GNAM ), Notre Dame des Grace
Black Community Association , Spice Island Cultural Day Association of Quebec . She was also a member of Elizabeth House Foundation Board ; Co-Chair ( McGill Centraide Committee ); Writer and Contributor ( Montreal Community Contact & McGill Reporter ) and Writer and Editor ( Canada Weekend Post ). In October 2016 , she gave the Keynote Address “ On Whose Shoulders ” at the Grenada Nationals Association of Montreal ( GNAM ) 50th Anniversary celebration .
While HR Advisor at McGill University , she helped several community members to secure employment . As Administrative Assistant to the Dean , Faculty of Education , McGill University , she spearheaded the drive which resulted in Grenadian national , the Hon . Dr . Jean Augustine , being awarded an Honorary Doctorate in 2009 .
As member of McGill ’ s Black History Month Committee , in 2019 , she was recognized for almost 40 years of employment and community service . She is member of the Dr . Kenneth Melville McGill Black Faculty and Staff Caucus with the goal to “ cultivate a nurturing learning and working environment for Black Faculty and staff ”.
Anne has also been spotlighted in McGill Reporter , Mèlange Travel and Lifestyle Magazine , Montreal Community Contact , Faculty of Arts News and McGill ’ s
Bicentennial ( 1821-2021 ) History Series as one of its many Unsung Heroes . Some of her writings are featured in the March 2021 special edition NY Everybody ’ s Magazine … “ Caribbean Women Reaction ”.. Kamala Harris takes .. oath .. as Vice- President ( USA )” and Kola Writers ’ magazine ( Quebec ).
She continues to be involved in community enrichment . In 2022- 2023 , she was a mentor in the McGill Black Students Network Mentorship Program and is presently a mentor in Playmas Montreal ’ s Gem * Star Circle of Excellence Scholarship Program . In Summer 2023 , Anne delivered the Keynote Address “ The Power Within – Lives on in the Hereafter ” at Theresa “ Clo ” Henwood ’ s annual Tea , Poetry & Wee Party - the proceeds of which benefit schools in Grenada . She believes in the merits of continuous education – formal and learning through living and networking .
On December 31 , 2022 , Anne retired from McGill University after 43 years of dedicated service in administrative and academic units .
Anne “ Janice ” and spouse , McDonald Joseph Clarke , reside in Chateauguay , QC – Canada .
