MARIA MEYERS is the current President of two major non-profit Grenadian organizations in Toronto , the Spice Isle Association , and The Grenada Day Cultural Association , for over 20 years . Although retired , she remains active , planning and organizing events from Grenada , returning to Toronto to execute the annual Grenada , Carriacou , and Petite Martinique Day celebrations . This year ’ s festival , continuing the celebration of the 50th Year Independence , will take place on August 24th , 2024 , promising to be a massive and memorable production .
MILDRED LAWRENCE-TAMSSOT , founder of Hot Needle Designs from Gouyave Estate , Grenada , made her home in Niagara Falls , Canada . With a lifelong love for fashion , she pursued formal education in Fashion Design at St . Lawrence College . Her luxury line , favored by stars like Daniel Craig , Bruce Willis and Drake , reflects timeless elegance and meticulous craftsmanship , drawing inspiration from icons like Donna Karan and Stella McCartney .
Sadly , Mildred passed away a few days before publishing this magazine issue . We recognize her contributions and offer our heartfelt condolences to her friends and family . She will be missed .
MARK FELIX , a Grenadian- British strongman , has competed in 18 World ’ s Strongest Man contests , reaching the finals three times . He won the 2015 Ultimate Strongman Masters , 2016 WSF World Cup , and multiple grip contests . Over 19 years , he competed in over 100 international events , ranking 3rd most prolific in history .
MONIFA AYINDE , a proud Grenadian living in Vancouver , Canada , led the Grenadian Cultural Association of British Columbia for several years before stepping down in November 2023 . She is a Director for the British Columbia Organization of Caribbean Cultural Associations and was honored as one of the 100 ABC women in 2022 . Now semi-retired , she takes pride in showcasing the beauty of Grenada , Carriacou , and Petite Martinique to Vancouverites .
NICOLE SWANN is a Dental Assistant . She is also the President of Grenada Nationals Association of Montreal , a non-profit community organization . She loves volunteering and finds it very rewarding . Nicole loves reading and writing poetry and promoting the beautiful islands of Grenada , Carriacou and Petite Martinique .
