far cry from the Oculus Rift. On the other hand, the technology is extremely basic. It is a cardboard box in which you put a smartphone in and wear to experience VR. This leaves much to be desired but it is a cheap way to understand the phenomenon. The Samsung Gear VR combines using smartphones with headsets, where a Samsung smartphone can be put in front of the headset and worn. The visuals are not the best, however, it is of higher quality than the Google Cardboard, and the price is not too expensive, retailing at $99. The HTC Vive is one the top-tier gaming VR headsets, even above the Oculus Rift in terms of tech. It offers 360-degree views, and also allows one to move around an area to even further the experience. It is mainly used for gaming but the experience is worth it. A latency rate of 90Hz is used to reduce motion sickness. This headset is one of the most expensive, coming in at around $ 800, more than the Oculus. The price tag is quite a lot, but the experience offered may be worth it. The Sony Playstation VR tried to address previous issues with its screen and latency rate, making it clearer and faster today to allow for faster gaming. It is not as expensive as the Oculus Rift or HTC Vive, but still offers a good gaming and a solid VR experience. It has a reasonable retail price of $400, around the price of a smartphone today. Microsoft has taken VR technology one step further by developing the Microsoft Hololens which projects holograms into the real world space, allowing one to interact with them. The technology is very new, so prototypes market for $3000, the most expensive one on this list, would not be available to the average-income population for quite a while. In my opinion, while all the VR headsets have different traits, it depends on the user, not the device in order to obtain a VR system. Since people are in different circumstances, the different range of VR headsets means that they can pick and choose to their desires. It is admirable that the different companies are trying to cater to different people. It gives everyone an opportunity to enjoy VR technology no matter what they do. Written By: Shao Shuai
