Investment announced in Tanasote plant
Octowood , a part of the Sweden ’ s Rundvirke Industrier Group and one of Europe ’ s largest creosote treaters , has invested in a new treatment plant using Arxada ’ s wood preservative , Tanasote . This followed extensive efficacy test data and reviewing the BPR risk assessments reports . Octowood wanted to offer an additional long-term wood protection option for pine used in fencing and power lines .
First introduced to the market in 2018 , Tanasote combines organic biocides and copper in a mobile oil formulation . Arxada states that it protects against a wide spectrum of decay fungi , “ with high penetration depth into the timbers , providing excellent water repellent properties for improved stability in service ”.
Tanasote has been granted BPR authorisation for use as an industrial wood preservative for Use Classes 3 and 4 in 23 countries across Europe . Arxada subsequently announced that Tanasote S40 has been authorised for use under GB BPR , which replaces the EU BPR in England , Scotland and Wales .

The Industrial Biotechnology Innovation Centre ( IBioIC ) is to install a 300-litre fermenter at FlexBio , its scale-up facility at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh , Scotland . IBioIC said that this will “ address a key missing component in Scotland ’ s innovation infrastructure ”, giving biotechs open access to a facility that can help them scale laboratory-based science up to an industry-ready process without the expense of buying large-capacity fermenters . FlexBio was launched in 2016 and has supported over 60 projects , up to a capacity of 30 litres . The new fermenter will enable it to offer up to ten times that volume .
