Meet Aaron Lee , CEO of Alchem Trading
Anyone who works in the chemical industry will know that procurement of chemicals from across the globe is often not an easy process .
I ’ ve worked in the sector for over a decade and have travelled the world procuring chemicals for a wide variety of industries and end users . Over this time , my knowledge and experience gradually made me see that I could do something different in this sector – I could help more ethical companies by working for myself .
I took that leap of faith last year when I set up my own company Alchem Trading with the aim of helping companies procure more effectively , more ethically and with much less effort .
With so many rules to follow , so much cross-border red tape to consider , I ’ ve already helped a number of clients to access raw materials and ingredients , getting them into the UK to allow their own businesses to grow and thrive .
I ’ ve found that by being selfemployed , I ’ m not burdened by the processes of others , I ’ m more agile and flexible and can use my extensive contacts to help my clients by making procurement as hasslefree as possible . I can work across any sector ; however , I do have very specialist knowledge in the world of cosmetics and personal care .
As for my background , I was born and brought up in Swindon , UK , and for quite a while thought that sport might be my career – I was an accomplished swimmer , training for several years in a club environment with someone who went on to become an Olympic silver medallist .
However , as I moved into my late teens , I began to realise it wasn ’ t a life I wanted and re-focused on my love of science .
I went to university and did a degree in chemistry before completing a Masters and then moving into the chemical sector . I quickly realised that a ‘ lab ’ environment wasn ’ t for me and I worked better with people .
This then led to several roles working in the commercial side of chemicals . For a decade , I ’ ve worked

Today , I ’ m a father of three and I live in Oxfordshire with my wife Leila .
