San Francisco welcomes ChemCon

ChemCon The Americas , part of the most important events on chemical regulation , returns this year

ChemCon The Americas , the regional version of the ChemCon events on chemical regulation , returns this year on 13-17 March . It takes place at the Nikko Hotel San Francisco on Union Square , close to the downtown business district and with easy access to the major sights of interest on the bay .

Registration is now open on the dedicated website and runs until 24 February . The fees are on a sliding scale , with three days of conference sessions costing € 2,700 and each of three seminars on the first and last days priced at € 400 . A complimentary workshop for those attending the seminar ( s ) and / or conference sessions also takes place on the first day .
The ChemCon events themselves date back to 1996 , the name deriving from ‘ international chemical control legislation ’. They originally took place in Europe every other year but have branched out to both Asia and the Americas . Following the disruption of the COVID-19 pandemic , they will once again rotate between the regions on a triennial basis .
There will also be a particular focus on Latin America in San Francisco but the presentations are global in nature at all of the ChemCon events . The organisers describe ChemCon The Americas as “ a global platform , which brings together many experts representing companies , authorities and international organisations from over 25 countries ”.
There will be presentations from more than 50 speakers , focusing on international chemical legislation like TSCA and REACH , the globally harmonised system ( GHS ), trade aspects of regulatory issues , and country-specific information on new chemical notification , chemical inventories , assessment of existing chemicals , classification and labelling , hazard communication , product registration and risk assessment .
The programme was developed together with the programme advisory committee by members , who are all experts in their field of business and all related to the chemical sector , so as to ensure the highest level of up-todate information . The event opens on Monday 13 March with the following :
• Workshop : What you need to know when reversing the global supply chain
• Seminar 1 ( morning ): California & other state perspectives on chemical control legislation
• Seminar 2 ( afternoon ): Latin America & GHS in the Americas
Tuesday 14 March has conference sessions on :
• TSCA implementation update – existing chemicals
• TSCA implementation update – new chemicals
• Canada
• PFAS & the ‘ essential use ’ discussion
On Wednesday , 15 March , the conference themes are
• The EU Chemical Strategy for Sustainability
• EU REACH & CLP revision
• Authorisation & restriction – in practice
• Sustainability in the value chain
A social event for relatively lowkey networking and exploring what the host city has to offer takes place that evening . On the final day of the conference , Thursday 16 March , the focus swings more towards regional and country-specific sessions on :
• UK , Turkey , India , Eurasia
• Chemical control legislation in China & Korea
• Chemical control legislation in the Asia-Pacific region
• Global approach to data sharing , new chemicals & polymers
ChemCon The Americas 2023 closes on Friday 17 March with Seminar 3 on ‘ Supply chain communication and product stewardship strategies ’. A small tabletop exhibition accompanies the conference . In the main , these are CROs and suppliers of IT compliance services .
