Minister’s Message
Hon. Michael Browne
Minister’s S.E.N Address
Research shows, and life makes evident, that the curriculum must operate as a living and adaptable entity that evolves to adequately meet the needs of our students, our education system, and national expectations of educated citizens. Rather than a one-size-fits-all approach to the delivery of pedagogy, the curriculum must be tailored and adapted to oft’ times fit very unique circumstances. Similar to the focus on areas such as science and business education, the extraordinary and exceptional needs of special needs students’ demands that instruction, the learning environment, and content of the curriculum must be suited to meet the needs of our exceptional educators.
The Government of Antigua and Barbuda through the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology is committed to such an adaptive curriculum to comprehensively respond to the needs of our extra-ordinary students. The educational needs of special needs students are of such a paramount importance that the urgency compels a response that transcends the formal curriculum. In essence, we must and are bridging the formal curriculum with the hidden curriculum. Our energized focus on special needs education is being repositioned to be all encompassing and inclusive in content, instruction, engagement, environment, and outcomes.
