I'm a mentor with AIME at Murdoch University. I do the Outreach program with two year eleven students and tutor squads at two schools. I first heard about AIME at uni. I was walking around on Market Day, looking at all the stalls and tables and one stood out to me. Vicky Burrows explained the program to me and it sounded amazing. I had already started my course and the idea of working with high school kids seemed to make sense with what I was studying. I knew then that I had to do it. The first sessions were great. They were a lot of fun and I found that I already knew a few of the other mentors there. It was great seeing everyone so enthusiastic and excited about this program. The Mentees were great as well. I think we were all a little nervous about the first meeting. It's always difficult meeting new people at first but it all dissipated so quickly and all the Mentors and Mentees at our table were laughing and joking and having a great time. The Cultural Awareness sessions were great. It was informative and I learned a lot. The program overall was amazing. We met a lot of people and learned a lot of things. The Other Elections were a great way of getting the Mentees out of their shells. It was great to be able to work with them and to see what they thought were important and to have them share their opinions on what mattered to them. The whole program has been a great way for everyone involved to learn and share. Find out how you can be a mentor at aimementoring.com
