The BIG Interview Darren Hood- cleaner

In this feature, we find out about the jobs people with a learning disability do. Today we meet someone who is a student on our Peer Information Project( PIP) and has now got himself a job. Please introduce yourself to us... I‘ m Darren Hood & I started working as a cleaner at Isleworth Town Primary School in April this year.
How did you get the job? I looked at the jobs on the Hounslow Council website. I sent them my CV & my support worker helped me with a letter. We told them about my learning disability & they gave me a work trial. I could then prove to them I could do the job. This meant I didn’ t have to go for an interview. jobs. hounslow. gov. uk
What does your job involve? I vacuum 3 classrooms & corridors. I clean the tables & empty the bins. I like to get to work early. So I allow plenty of time to travel there on the bus.
What do you like most about the job? I like vacuuming and seeing the other staff members. I also like earning the money I am paid every month.
What do you buy with the money you earn? I like to pay all my own bills & food shop.
What do you enjoyed about being on PIP? I enjoy meeting new people especially Sharon Birch.
What do you like to do in your spare time? I like to play FIFA 13 on my PlayStation!
Would you like to be on the 2013 / 2014 Peer Information Project?
