Why not ask your family about the facts and numbers? A new page about something important BY YOUNG REPORTER KERENSA There is more water covering the Earth than there is land – just over 70% of the globe is water. It’s not always a liquid, though; most of the planet’s fresh water is ice. Ice is found at the North and South Pole and in glaciers (rivers of ice). Every continent has glaciers, even Africa! On the subject of ice, did you know that hot water can sometimes freeze faster than cold water? When someone is born they are 80% water. Even later in life, there is still a lot of water in humans, for example your brain is 70% water. How the body is made up varies according to whether you are a boy or a girl and how fit you are because fatty tissue of our bodies contains less water than lean tissue. Every day, we lose just a little more than a cup of water when we breathe out. 16 SPARK
