LETTER FROM THE DIRECTOR OF GOLF

BRAD ’ S BUGLE

We are getting ready for season with a calendar and golf schedule planning . I thought I would share some of the highlights of the outdoor work that has been accomplished this summer and other items that are ongoing . Our crew have been a little busy this summer and we thought you may like to be able to see what we have been up to in the golf world at Spanish Wells .
We rebuilt the greens on the North course .
Your Superintendent , Rich Osgood , said he feels like he has “ sprayed for more weeds and killed more bugs this summer than the last 4 years combined .” Reminder , weeds and bugs don ’ t go away , you must control their populations or else . This work has especially shown an excellent turn around on the tee boxes .
• We started edging the cart paths for the first time in over 5 years and it has turned out to be a larger topic than any one person could dream of . We will get it done though and keep them maintained .
• We have been trimming the lake banks with the Ventrac hedge-trimmer attachment , but we are learning the lake bank weeds seem to grow faster than grass .
• We have used the Ventrac path-grinder to turn the sand cart paths over a few times .
• New roofs were installed on the South and East restrooms .
• All three restrooms on the course have been painted inside and outside .
• We installed more safety signage on the golf course and at the driving range , along with road crossing signage to help remind vehicle traffic of oncoming carts . Approximately 30 dead trees have been taken down and their stumps are being ground .
• Drainage has been another spot that has been overlooked over the past years . So , we have either fixed and / or unclogged most of the drainage lines throughout the course with more to do .
• We are building new green tee boxes on # 2 and # 4 East .
• We are eliminating as much overgrowth as possible in key wooded areas .
