LETTER FROM THE GOLF COURSE SUPERINTENDENT
RICH ' S RAP
Winter cold fronts with high winds and low temperatures were frequent this past month . Times like these keep us very busy adjusting our agronomic approach . The Bermuda has slowed its growth rate considerable and is noticeable especially in the fairways as it relates to more ball roll . Greens are much faster and firmer mostly due to environmental conditions .
As season continues to move on , we do so as well in the Maintenance Department . Cart path work and weed reduction throughout are still a high priority . We continue to improve the paths daily . With a timely pre-emergent application in late month , this will help reduce any new weeds from germinating . The fertility applied at the same time offers a nice green up and feeds the Bermuda continuously for weeks after .
We have some major cleanup and restoration projects in the works throughout the course and near / around our maintenance facility that have been ongoing . Removal of invasive exotics such as Brazilian Pepper and Carrotwoods have been taken out throughout the three courses . On-going efforts to provide the very best bunkers possible has been a great success this season . The removal of bunker rakes from each bunker has made it necessary to rake , edge and spin the traps more frequently . We are looking forward now to the spring and the start of our long-awaited horticultural practices throughout spring and summer .
See you around the course ,
Richard Osgood
