LETTER FROM THE GOLF COURSE SUPERINTENDENT
RICH ' S RAP
Season has been going great . Growing conditions for the Bermuda and winter over-seed have been optimal . A few strong cold fronts were welcomed after a long , wet summer and fall . This will push our Bermuda to slow down growth rates and allow the ryegrass to thrive and do its job . It will look great and perfect the Bermuda as well . We have had some changes in staffing along the way the last few months . Additions to the maintenance crew are always welcome as we push forward during a busy season .
We will continue to focus on weed control throughout the course . This starts at the collar around the green and pushes outward to the fairways and tee tops . With the collars and tees not getting over seeded , our focus is to rid them of all weeds throughout season in preparation of a great spring transition . With it getting harder and harder to maneuver around the course , we will focus on the smaller detailed stuff as much as possible . Bunker maintenance , cart path grooming and keeping landscape beds clean are also a top priority .
We have added a few new pieces of equipment to our fleet that will aid in being timelier with foliar applications , cart path work and better mowing of the roughs . Having two large spray rigs at our disposal allows us to spray greens in one morning versus two or three . This allows for like conditions on all courses at the same time . Fertility applications everywhere else will get completed in 50 % less time . We have ramped up our cart path grooming program as well . You will see us on a more regular basis continuing to provide optimal path conditions as much as we can . New material , creative re-routing and shaping of existing to re-purposing of the paths will continue to take priority all through season .
Please feel free to drop any ideas , suggestions or what you are seeing around property to the Pro Shop .
See you around the course ,
Richard Osgood
