PH $500-700 A large (12"x20") vintage sepia-toned photograph of the U.S.S. Maine. Taken in 1909 by famed Naval photographer C.E. Waterman (credit in lower right corner). Photo features the second vessel to carry the name of our 23rd state. The U.S.S. Maine was the lead ship in her class of battleships, commissioned in 1898 and decommissioned the year of this photograph, it was then re-launched during the teens and was used during the First World War. Photo is quite awesome in its scope, featuring all crew members sitting on all parts of the ship as possible, with presumably the ship's Captain at the very lower center of the photograph. Only a few creases found here, but the matte needs replacing. Also included in this lot, a small collection of militaria ephemera, mostly WWII, including an Infantry Field Manual, ration cards, various patriotic postcards, photos of wounded soldiers, a 'War Map of the World' issued by Sunoco, and a vintage letter from 1777 written on behalf of Colonel Philip van Cortlandt.
