1969 FIRST DAY COVER W/ GIL HODGES
CUT SIGNATURE & MORE ................................. PH $350-500
A ‘constructed’ First Day Cover from 1969 commemorating
100 years of professional baseball, featuring a portrait of Lou
Gehrig, carries an affixed cut signature from Dodger great Gil
Hodges (blue ballpoint). Hodges died relatively early (1973)
so his autograph is increasingly rare. Cut measures 1"x2¾”.
Other signatures penned on the cover: Steve Garvey, Wes
Parker, Ron Fairley, and more. Hodges signature especially
bold. Postmark has been ‘enhanced’ in ink to appear to tie
Hodges’ autograph to cover. Very fine.
A First Day Cover commemorating the 100th anniversary of
professional baseball, hand-drawn and painted by artist Elain
Thomspon, featuring the two Dodger pitching legends from
the 1960s, Don Drysdale and Sandy Koufax. Across each of
their wonderfully rendered images graces signatures from each
HOF player, both in blue ink. A very rare item, possibly unique.
Outstanding!
