PH $4000-6000 Ten pages from poll-book for Meredosia Precinct in Illinois, for 1848 elections. Five blue sheets list the names of 220 citizens who voted for proposed Electors for each party, showing 125 for the Cass and Butler ticket versus 92 for Taylor and Fillmore, and just three votes for Van Buren and Adams. Several names with Abraham Lincoln association including O.H. Browning and A.G. Henry. Usual vertical fold, quite clean. Additional six white pages of poll sheets from the March 6, 1848 election at the same precinct, with voting for the state constitution (passed), a new mill tax, and most significantly, ‘For the Article in relation to Colored Persons.’ These last sheets include the affidavits of the Clerks of the Election certifying that all was correct. PH $600-800 Fred Vinson (1890-1953), Supreme Court Chief Justice, signed these 8 printed checks ‘FRED M. VINSON ATTORNEY AT LAW’ during his years in private practice. Each measures 8¼”x3" and dated 1922-24, each entirely in Vinson’s hand. Scarce signatures. Very fine. 734 /D 1928 JOSEPH P. KENNEDY SIGNED LETTER .. PH $350-500 Typed letter on Kennedy’s New York City office letterhead, dated June 13, 1928, unusually and simply signed ‘Joe’ in black ink. Letter to fellow business world big-wig Matthew Brush of American International Corporation, and appears to be a condolence letter on the death of Brush’s mother. Rather personal content, very fine condition. PH $200-300 Mrs. Eleanor Roosevelt wrote this two short page note to Ralph Cunfer, President of the Young Democrats shortly before his resignation from that position. Two pages on her 6"x7" letterhead. Horizontal mailing fold and signature in blue fountain pen. PH $2000-2500 Remarkable unpublished McNamara memo to himself about Jackie pressuring Bobby to run for VP and her feelings toward LBJ. Includes: (1) Typed memorandum SIGNED IN TYPE by Robert S. McNamara, dated August 3, 1964. ‘MEMORANDUM FOR THE RECORD’ on stationery of The Secretary of Defense. ‘EYES ONLY’ typed at top. Never folded. Fine condition. Memo refers to rumors that Jackie has been pressuring Robert Kennedy to run for Vice-President and that she is bitter towards LBJ. (2) Rare envelope free franked by Jacqueline Kennedy in ink at upper right, black-bordered envelope addressed by Mrs. Kennedy to Mrs Robert S McNamara in Washington, DC. PH $200-300 Three typed letters (8"x10½”) on FBI letterhead, all addressed to William A. Johnson and each signed by J. Edgar Hoover. Dates range from Feb 1941 to Aug 1953. Topics include a promotion, a death in family and an appreciation letter. Johnson began his career in the FBI as a messenger in 1935. All 2-hole punched at top with two horizontal folds for envelope insertion. Very fine. Group of 23 political pin-back buttons, includes: 1910 Ohio Delegate, McKinley ribbon, Wallace, Mondale, Johnson, Nixon and more. Small bit of duplication and all look to be in very fine condition.
