made of Tagua or very early celluloid still have a thimble, needle
and thimble-shaped resin piece, one item is a pincushion.
Additional two bracelets of similar material, with round spots
for miniature photographs, including some Civil War generals

clipping ('Daily' something) of Jan 16, 1863, giving news of
the Ohio Brigade in Corinth, Miss; 2 thick paper tickets for
the Wayne Co. Fair dated in pencil 1864; 7 envelopes with
patriotic designs as were sold and used during the Civil War, 5

/D 1863 ROBERT E. LEE WAR DATED HANDWRITTEN
LETTER TO 'DAUGHTERS' .......................... PH $7500-10,000
Incredibly RARE handwritten, war-dated and signed letter from
Robert E. Lee, inviting his young cousins to a review of General
A.P. Hill’s corps. Letter (one page, 8"x9¼”) signed ‘R E Lee’,
datelined Camp [Orange Court House, VA], Sept 10, 1863,
addressed to ‘My Beautiful Daughters’ (Margaret and Carrie).
Written on lined laid paper, lightly penned with adequate
legibility. Uneven left edge as it was removed by Lee from a
letter book, not affecting any text. Professionally matted and
framed with beautifully reproduced portrait of General Lee to
a finished size of 22"x16½”. Although Lee’s salutation is ‘My
beau tiful daughters’ and his closing is ‘very truly and affly
your father R E Lee,’ Margaret & Carrie Stuart were his wife’s
second cousins. They were close in age to his own daughters.
Text reads, in part, ‘I have not seen you all day. I hope this has
not made you as sad as it has me...Tomorrow I shall be engaged
all the m[orni]ng...If you wish to be present, I will send the
wagon & can then see you on the ground at intervals at least.
Let me know your wishes...Good night. May good angels guard
you & bright visions cheer you. Very truly and aff[ectionate]ly
your father, R E Lee.’ Some light fading, but highly legible.
Fine. Sanders values war-dated ALS with war content at more
than $25,000!
