Namaste and Nutan Varsh na Abhinandan,
In my role as a father, as a SPA( UK) PRO, as a President of The Society of Old Friends( 109 year old stationery industry institution), as a Managing Director of my company and as Board Member of several venerable institutions, I face CHANGE everyday …… you cannot escape it …. is ever-present … our personal lives, our jobs and of course institutions like our Samaj- they are experiencing change and challenges at a pace faster than we have ever known. The demands on your time, if not managed carefully, are ceaseless. All this brought on by technology, social and political change, e. g. Brexit or even the outcome of the American elections … it will affect us all in one way or other.
So let me start by quoting an ancient sage, Socrates:
‘‘ The Secret of Change is to Focus all your Energy, not on Fighting the Old, but on Building the New’’
Question: Are you building the New in your personal lives?… Is your local Samaj allowing NEW to be built? If not, why not? When did the younger generation challenge the old guard? There are many wise elders amongst us, who can see the transformation and are willing to give the next generation an opportunity … an opportunity to progress … to make a few mistakes and be by their side to guide … to encourage … transforming and building on their legacy. We should recognise their commitment, loyalty and hard work. Let us celebrate their past successes.
For the young, change is not an option, in fact, they take it in their stride. They are born to experience all that the world offers, and if we teach them in the right way, they will value our tradition and culture … just ask SPA Leicester Committee about their Education Programme. Therefore, if you feel passionately about our Samaj, and many do, just consider how many hours
