I sometimes cringe when I hear the word ‘luxury’. It can mean different things to many people. Sometimes we resonate with glimpses of the Kardashians, or Donald Trump and his plethora of wealth; they certainly represent luxury and wealth. For me, my personal belief system is having what you like but keeping it all in check. Extreme excess is not necessary for anyone. Yes I limit my love of bags and clothes. I also ‘recirculate’ on a regular basis! But one thing is this; I never seem to have enough time. This past fall I made a deal with myself and got caught up with my social calendar. I scheduled a few outings and lunches with people I had neglected to see. The feeling of having my social calendar caught up was freeing and I felt a world better for it. That to me is a very luxurious thing! I treated some dear friends to lunch or took them out for coffee, did some catching up and had good conversations. My big outing a week later was spending an entire weekend with my friend Sue in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario. We rarely get together and when our plans fell through to go to Italy we decided to be money-wise and not spend that kind of money on a weeks vacation, but to compromise and go away for a weekend instead.
It was joyous; we ate, we shopped, we ate again, drank lots of wine, and went to my favorite fudge store. It was so much fun, that I wish I could do that every month!
I never ever get to spend enough time with the people I care about. So it’s not the stuff in my closet or the diamonds on my hand that counts – we all know that – it's the time cherished that matters! Take that to the bank Mr. Trump!
