Travels with eamon Edition 1A Port Aransas, TX Photos by Eamon Decker Howdy, Folks. This month, let's go down to the gulf coast, to Port Aransas, located at the northern end of Mustang Island. To get to Port Aransas, I took the free ferry service from Aransas Pass. You can also arrive by bridge from Corpus Christi, but the ferry has more of an “island feel”. Port Aransas, originally named Ropesville, was once just a fishing town located between the Gulf of Mexico and Redfish Bay. Fishing is still a popular pastime and job here, but tourism has grown tremendously in the Ferry Boats past few decades. There are dozens of souvenir shops, restaurants and hotels across town, and of course the beach is popular, especially during spring break. When I was there, I ate at Fin's Grill & Bar, located right on The harbor. The sign advertized “U hook 'em, we cook 'em”, apparently, fisherman can bring their catch (already cleaned), and Fin's will cook it. I ordered the Cowboy Burger, with golden fried onion rings, and a large beef patty cooked perfectly with BBQ sauce, 15 Texas Outdoors & Farm Magazine November 2012
