57 Southwest Highways & Fields
There are two campgrounds in the park, one on each rim. The North Rim Campground is located in a pinon forest, and has no hookups. Water, vault toilets and grills are available. The South Rim Campground is far more popular, and has 30-amp electric hookups. Vehicles longer than 35 feet are not recommended at the South Rim Campground.
Black Canyon of the Gunnsion National Park is a majestic place and makes for a great weekend camping trip or a wilderness excursion. The sound of an eagle echoing through the canyon and the thrill of hooking a 20" trout will stick with you forever and lure you back to visit again and again.
The park is 13 miles east of Montrose off U.S. 50. Due to the immense depth of the canyon, there is no bridge between the north and south rims, it takes 2-2.5 hours to drive from one rim to the other.
If you have several days to explore the park, you should visit both rims, but if you have limited time, just pick one and explore it, so you're not spending your entire vacation driving. The south rim is more developed and popular, but the north rim offers different beautiful views and more solitude.
Wherever you choose to visit in this amazing park, you're sure to have a great time, and will come home with plenty of photos to make your friends jealous.
