6th: 1830, Law passed by Mexican government prohibiting further colonization from

the United States and any importation of blacks into Mexican territory.

8th: 1864, Battle of Mansfield, Civil War.

9th: 1865, General Robert E. Lee surrendered to the Union army at Appomattox.

13th: 1839, Commissioners for the permanent capital city of the Republic of Texas

selected the village of Waterloo (present-day Austin).

16th: 1836, Mexican troops burned Harrisburg (present-day Houston).

1947, French freighter Grandcamp exploded 500 yards from Monsanto Plant in

Texas City; resulting fires caused a freighter--High Flyer--loaded with

ammonium nitrate to explode on April 17th.

17th: 1837, Texan Schooner Independence captured off Galveston by two Mexican

brigs.

1861, Star of the West captured off the coast of Indianola by Texas volunteers.

20th: 1836, First skirmishes fought between Texans and Santa Anna’s army at San

Jacinto.

21st: 1836, Texan forces defeated Santa Anna’s army at San Jacinto.

22nd: 1836, Santa Anna Captured by Texans, war with Mexico effectively ended.

25th: 1843, TS San Antonio mutineers hanged.
