So, what did I do next? Dumb question! I rebaited the line and cast it out into almost the same spot. A few pops of the cork later and the same result. When done, I had netted a second barely legal redfish.

Then there was the third time. Would I try it again? Really, the question was merely rhetorical and brought no debate. Out into the water went the hook, line, and cork. Seconds later it happened again. The cork sank and the reel started singing. In a few moments, I had a third maximum legal size redfish.

If you are familiar with the law, three is the daily limit for redfish in Texas, no one of which can exceed twenty-eight inches. Now I was faced with another tough question. Did I begin to catch and release or go home and try again on another day? I chose the latter, deciding to call it a day. The three fish I caught filled my entire ice chest. It was a great morning!

Now that spring has sprung, the kayak redfishing season is here. I am looking forward to it and encourage everyone to give it a try. I can promise you, it sure beats shopping!
