STANDARD LIFE OPENING EVENT DEEP TIME
Standard Life is announced today as title sponsor of the flagship
opening event of the Edinburgh International Festival. This new
partnership between thismajor Edinburgh based company and the
internationally known festival runs for the next three years until
2018.
This year’s opening event “Deep Time” is a free event that will
see the western façade of Edinburgh Castle become the canvas for
digitally animated projections telling the story of Edinburgh’s past
from volcanic rock 350 million years ago through to the intellectual
legacy that this city has provided over the many years. Prominent
in this is the work of celebrated Edinburgh thinker and scientist
James Hutton, father of “Deep Time” theory.
This “event artwork” will be provided by 59 Productions using
cutting edge projection and animation technology set to a specially
compiled soundtrack by Scottish rock band Mogwai.
Throughout the pre-production of this event, 59 Productions have
been working closely with Edinburgh University and experts from
science, art and humanities to ensure this story is as factually
correct as possible.
This event takes place on Sunday 7th August at 10.30 pm and can
be viewed from a specially created platform on Castle Terrace.
