NEWS UPDATES
AIRBNB HOLIDAY / SHORT TERM STAY LETS
Renting your home out via online sites such as Airbnb while you are away on your own holidays has become a source of extra income to many people in recent years. The nature of this is however changing as non-resident commercial landlords are now entering the market and at the moment Edinburgh council amongst many others seem to be completely unsure as to whether this change of propery use requires any extra licences or legislation as currently useage seems to fall completely through any current legislation for private rentals or even HMO requirements.
While the vast majority of Airbnb visitors will never cause any problems to their neighbours, there will always be a small minority who may, and many residents may simply not want ever changing people- particularly in shared tenement or stair properties.
If you are experiencing issues with the increase of commercially operated lets then it may be worthwhile making sure that your notify the appropriate council department and even your local councillor for further advice.
Clear clarification is required on purely commercial lets and when private lets by frequency potentially become commercial.
