WWW.SOUTHERNULSTERTIMES.COM Jacobson runs for state Assembly By SHANTAL RILEY [email protected] City of Newburgh Councilman Jonathan Jacobson is running to become the Democratic nominee in the 104th district of the New York State Assembly. “We need an effective voice in Albany,” Jacobson said. “It’s not enough to be on the right side of the issues. You need the experience, energy and ideas to be an effective assemblyman. I will hit the ground running.” Jacobson is seeking the seat left vacant by late Assemblyman Frank Skartados, a Democrat, who passed away in April. Jacobson served as the Orange County D e m o c r a t i c Jonathan Jacobson C o m m i t t e e chairman for 22 years and for two years as the chairman of the City of Newburgh Democratic Committee, until 2016. He was elected to represent Ward 3 on the Newburgh City Council last year. Jacobson also worked as assistant counsel to former speaker of the Assembly Stanley Fink. As assistant New York State attorney general under Attorney General Robert Abrams, he headed the regional Consumer Fraud Bureau in Poughkeepsie in the early 80s. He also served as a workers’ compensation judge. Jacobson is a practicing attorney, specializing in real estate, workers’ compensation and social security disability. Continued on page 4
