something where we couldn’t work in our
building anymore, we didn’t want all of
those important records to be gone,” Renn
said, adding that would be even more
crucial to have that capability if it was
something like a tornado that affected the
widespread community.
“We need to be able to help our community
by still being up and running to
process claims and to be there for our
insureds.”
This plan was put to the test at the start
of the COVID-19 pandemic, when people
from sectors across the board began working
from home. Renn said they had the system
all ready to go within a few days and
at the start, worked on a rotating schedule.
Eventually though, they all began to work
from home and would for the next two anda-half
months.
“I think it worked pretty smoothly,”
Renn said. “We reached out to those
customers who came into the agency
frequently and let them know what was
happening, everybody else who called in
said they didn’t realize we weren’t in the
building anymore unless the occasional
noise, like a child
or dog in the background,
gave us away.
“We had never
really tested it out,
it was more of a ‘we
know these things are
in place if we need
them.’ But obviously
COVID forced the
issue and made us test
it out and it worked
like a dream.”
The team is now
back in the office, of

protocol in place
similar to what other
businesses have done.
They disinfect regularly,

because it brings up the feeling of ‘something
may happen. But it’s good to know that we are

disaster does happen.”
and are able to get their temperature taken;
staff temperature is also taken daily.
“Everybody is understanding,” she said.
“I think every business you go into, the
process is a little bit different now with
COVID.”
But she wants to make sure customers
know the team is there and ready to help
with whatever is needed, whenever it’s
needed. They just ask that they call ahead
before visiting the office right now.
“We want to make sure people know we
are seeing customers, we would love to see
customers, but please call ahead,” she said.
Renn said she feels lucky to be part of
the team at Callistus Smith, a place where
everyone is flexible and willing to pitch in,
and who give their all to those in the community
they serve.
“They are lovely, welcoming and flexible
people and they’re just really a joy to
work with,” she said. “They definitely have
their clients’ best interest at heart, they go
above and beyond to try to help their clients
with whatever they may need.
