From dishwasher to owner , Sam Anderson has become an icon in the Southern Indiana dining and bar business . Over the years , Sam ’ s influence has resulted in several employees becoming entrepreneurs in the food business , with some even becoming successful restaurant owners and one a well-known caterer . “ Sam has always been a huge supporter of me and my business ,” noted Terri Lynn Doyle of Terri Lynn ’ s Catering by Design , Inc .
“ Even when I ran Sam ’ s Tavern Specialty Catering back in the late 1980s and early 90s , Sam always allowed me to make most of the decisions . He has always treated me with the utmost respect . I have learned most everything I know about the food business from him . I am eternally grateful to be working with him on this new venture at the McCulloch House Meeting and Event Center .”
Terri Lynn moved her entire operation to the McCulloch House in September and will be the House Manager , with Terri Lynn ’ s Catering being the exclusive caterer for all events . “ I truly believe that this move has rescued us . My business model has completely changed in the past six months due to the coronavirus . For 22 years , Terri Lynn ’ s has been a 5-day-a-week operation focusing primarily on corporate catering . Right now , there is NO corporate catering ! While it has been a huge adjustment for the staff , they are just happy to still be working at TLC .”
When Sam opened his first restaurant in 1985 , he was only 25 years old . For 35 years his career in the restaurant business has seen many highs and lows . From a grand opening in the middle of a winter storm to a dump truck crashing into the middle of the dining room to a tragic fire that completely destroyed his flagship store , not even Covid 19 can keep Sam down ! The Highlander Point Restaurant , although under new ownership has thrived this last year . Sam and Terri Lynn both are survivors . They both are very passionate about what they do . Their 40 year relationship that started at the Hungry Pelican in Clarksville has now come full circle at the McCulloch House .
Sam keeps saying , “ two heads are better than one .” Terri Lynn believes , “ we both bring very important attributes to this venture that are certain to be a winning combination .”
