" About six or seven years later, they received notice that it was for sale." Two separate owners are experiencing the same enchantment with the stately red brick home.
Becker, a founding member and President of the Burnside Historical Society, has a deep interest in items from the past.
" Everyone has vices in life. For me, it ' s antiques, classic cars, and old homes," Becker mused.
When moving into his new home in 2017, he decided to do more than the average new buyer ' s basic coat of paint and fresh flowers— he would restore the home to its original early-1900s aesthetic, out with the old and in with the older.
Restoration projects are not for the impatient, as Becker continually finds ways to remodel the home, including revealing the original entry flooring beneath the carpet, adding crown moulding, and installing decorative trim, which has become his new home-improvement fixation. Becker will tell you that his preoccupation with all things " old school " does not hinge on shiny or expensive artifacts, but rather the heart of it all.
" In the past, people put passion into their work, and that speaks to you," said Becker. "… Older homes have a mystique and grandeur you can ' t capture in newer homes."
