Sitting along Burnside ' s West Lakeshore Drive is a hilltop structure, often drawing craned necks and long stares at its picturesque perch overlooking stunning lake views. The house, with its tall white columns and rolling green slopes, is more than a beautiful waterfront residence: It is a home rich in local history, scarcely found anywhere else in Pulaski County.
Behind its grandeur, the
property is " home " for its generations of residents, past and present. It was constructed in 1926, finished in 1927, and overlooks the shimmering waters of Lake Cumberland— underneath which Burnside as it once was now sits, having made way for the formation of Lake Cumberland in the 1950s as the entire city relocated to higher ground.
Brandon Becker, Burnside City Councilor and local realtor, is the home ' s current owner and has lived there for nearly 10
years. However, he first set his sights on the property 15 years ago. What started as a normal cruise on West Lakeshore Drive in 2011 ended in a fervor for more information about the noble home on the hill.
" I remember driving and looking up at it for the first time. Nobody was home, so I knocked on a neighbor ' s house to see who owned it," recalled Becker. " They gave me the phone number, and I called. Mrs.( Joyce) Gregory answered, and I told her if she ever wanted to
sell it to let me know, and I left my contact."
Roughly half a decade later, the call came. Oddly enough, this is a recurring story about the former owner ' s introduction to the home. When speaking with Judge Katie Gregory Slone, the daughter of Dr. Allen and Mrs. Joyce Gregory, she recounts the family laying eyes on the property in the mid- ' 70s on a casual drive and knowing it was the home for them.
