Recently sold home at 336 Plantation Ave. Somerset. Photos submitted coach and Braden asked his dad to coach his team so he did.
“ I wanted to coach their oldest and most competitive team. I don’ t believe in the not keeping score in leagues. In the real world you keep score and you have to earn your minutes, and I think that is important for kids to learn,” he said.“ I tell Braden all the time if you work hard enough and get good enough and play well enough you will earn playing time.”
Sutton and Victoria continue to give back to the community by coaching the Somerset Sting, ninth and 11th grade AAU
travel teams.
The advice he gave Braden about working hard all the time, he gives to each of his AAU players as well.
“ With our AAU team we tell everyone that we promise no one minutes. You are going to earn your minutes,” he said.“ But we also tell them everyone will get practice time. You are going to get better by practicing hard, which leads to more playing time.”
Sutton is also up front about playing time with the players’ parents as well because he knows that not all parents have that same philosophy when it comes to their child’ s floor time.
“ I have a parent meeting at the beginning of the year and I say, ' Look, I will not talk about your kid’ s minutes with you. If you want to do that, you picked the wrong team,” he said.
Sutton said he puts the hard work mantra into use in his business as well.
“ Work is much like sports. If you want to be successful in it, you have to be willing to put in the time and hard work," he said. " Nothing is given to you. You have to work for it.”
